The flood during typhoon Ondoy destroyed most of our Home Appliances and that includes our 11 year old Sony CRT TV. I was really itching to buy a new TV but why buy if you already have one. I guess being practical paid up, the flood claimed out 25″ CRT TV instead of the Samsung LCD TV I want to buy last year.
Our first choice was the LA32B550K1R 32 inch Series 5 LCD TV, but the LG sales rep. introduced us to the 32LH70YR and compare them side by side. I really liked the touch of colour design of the Series 5 from Samsung, priced at 39,000 Philippine Pesos it sounds like a good deal. Abenson can even sell the display unit for 36k that’s a 3 thousand Pesos savings. We almost bought the Samsung Series 5 but the 32LH70YR have more advance features. Cheackout the specs and features after the cut.
Samsung Series 5 (LA32B550K1R) compared to LG Series LH70 (32LH70YR) Featurewise
- LG’s have 120Hz Screen Refresh Rate – Faster refresh rate means smoother and clearer motion while eliminating blur on action scenes. Traditional LCD TV only have 60Hz refresh rate. While on samsung’s site the series 5 only provides DNIE+ which Samsung says will give smoother action scenes but the LG performs better when compared side by side.
- Thickness of 2.9 inch: While the 42″ version of the LH70YR is 1.6 inch, the smaller 32″ have a thickness of 2.9 inch, not that bad. While Samsung Series 5 is a pinch thicker at 77.1 mm (3.04 inch)
- Bluetooth Link up: The 32LH70YR is equipped with built-in bluetooth radio so you can pair it with a bluetooth headphone for private movie/TV watching the Series 5 don’t have this option.
- USB Photo, MP3 and Video Playback: Instantly enjoy digital media stored in a USB flash disk. The Samsung Version only plays MP3 and Photo.
- LG’s LH70 series also have deeper blacks when compared side by side with samsung.

The 32 inch LH70 from LG is more expensive at almost 45k PhP but it’s features is quite a bargain, you need to get a more expensive Samsung Series 7 to get those specs. After bargaining for a while the LG sales rep agreed to give the 32LH70YR at 42k slashing 3 Thousand pesos to it’s original price.
I’ll post the unboxing video and user review soon. More information about the 32 inch LH70 LG LCD TV on it’s product page.

I’ve had this TV since Jan 2010 and it’s been great plugged to the pc as main monitor via dvi to hdmi cable.
I disabled audio of the hdmi in the nvidia control panel to hear the pc audio using a separate 3,5mm cable, since the dvi doesn’t output audio.
You can customize image for each input, say TV different than PC (HDMI).
PC settings (uses 35% power): “Just scan” mode, energy saving “off”, Picture mode “Vivid”, Backligt “12″, Contrast “75″, Brightness “75″, Sharpness “60″, Color “75″, Tint “0″, Color Temp “Cool”, Dynamic Contrast “off”, Dynamic Color “high”, Noise reduction “Medium”, Gamma “high”, Black level “low”, Real Cinema “on”, Tru motion “off”, Color Gamut “wide”, Edge Enhancer “high” and OPC “on”. 1920x1080x32bit (HDMI Audio disabled)
The results are crisp fonts, vivid colors and enough contrast for most of the time. When watching a movie I just change it to standard mode, since the “vivid” mode will keep all these settings.
On TV I just use 32% energy (yea I like to save energy
), and settings are very similar to pc, with a few changes: “16/9″ mode, energy saving “off”, Picture mode “Vivid”, Backlight “7″, Contrast “75″, Brightness 75″,
Sharpness “70″, Color “70″, Tint “0″, Color Temp “Cool”, Dynamic Contrast “off”, Dynamic Color “high”, Noise reduction “High”, Gamma “high”, Black level “low”, Real Cinema “on”, Tru motion “Hugh”, Color Gamut “wide”, Edge Enhancer “high” and OPC “on”.
What I like the most is 1 – it works perfect as pc monitor and TV (great crisp image), 2. Bluetooth audio capable, and 3- Just plug a pendrive/ipod and watch your divx movies directly.
At first, I do not like the design of scarlet II LG TV (even if we had to choose between all the LCD TV designs, the design of the Scarlet II would be my last option). I do not like color, because I think that red is too strong. but despite this detail, this TV has many features that make it really interesting and that make the difference with the other LCDs in its class. I compared many models of LCD and decided to buy this LCD TV Scarlet II. In conclucion, this is a good product. (Although I would have liked this tv have a better design)
)
the price is the selling point, the video playback and bluetooth is a bonus.. but audio is poor when playung divx movies vis USB.
i just bought this last week and i like so much. great bargain for the price.
Hi, I’m planning to buy a LCD TV and so far, the first time I saw LH70, I fell in love with it and has been my choice since December 2009. Would you mind sharing how is your experience with it?
Thanks.
