LG Crystal GD900Today while watching Qtube, my favorite local tech show on tv. I saw an advertisment of LG’s unusual phone. In the ad there’s a guy using his LG sliderphone with a transparent keypad, he is looking through it while looking at some sexy girls in the party.

So I made my research and figured out that it was released last August, I though it was a new Phone. According to tracyandmatt while the LG Crystal does what it says on the box. They believe that people will soon get tired of the clear keypad/touchpad which is a trinket according to them. Also Cnet.co.uk Pointed out that it is cool phone, BUT the LG GD900 Crystal has gimmicks galore and too many of them get in the way of a better user experience. They strongly said that “The see-through isn’t enough to make them fall inlove with this phone”. Techradar disagreed at tracyandmatts review, they said that the transparent touch section is not a novelty and it does the job right. BUT they also pointed out that the whole thing looks fragile, and the touch interface isn’t that responsive.

Positive Aspects of the LG Crystal, Pros

  • Excellent Video Recording
  • The chassis looks beautiful and well built
  • Sharp Video Playback
  • Improved S-Class UI, better input accuracy.
  • The Crystal touch pad works well

Negative Aspects, Cons

  • At 350 – 500 uk pounds, (818 US Dollars, 554 Euros, 49k Philippine Pesos) it’s an EXPENSIVE phone.
  • Poor internet browser
  • Touch sensitive buttons is difficult to use
  • Text messaging isn’t good enough, keep hitting the wrong keys.
  • NO GPS.

Now you probably thinking twice on getting the LG Crystal but wait till you see what other users are saying on their review.

  • Oh my god how can u not know how to forward a txt on this fone? its simple. maybe u shld be reading ur manual!that would help. I love this phone, its great. – Debbie, Scotland
  • Ok, first off. The iPhone wont let you have mp3 ringtones and the contract is stupid! (£35 a month and they want to still charge me for texts?) Only idiots or people who get discount have iPhones (or rich kids whom live off of mommy and daddy!) you can forward texts, quite easily. the top lef corner – that thing that looks like a piece of paper, it’s more options. The camera isn’t blurry – just switch autofocus off – and hold the phone still. It isn’t that expensive – My mate is on the same contract with orange and he has a tocco ultra (bought at same time.) You can see it in a sunny day (the screen has been treated so not to cause glare and the touch pad is quite visable. I personally think that a clear touch pad looks nice… but some people’s taste is just weird (Ed Harris Sony Ericcson phone anyone?) To those who say touch is too sensitive… LOOK IN THE OPTIoNS!! and all those who say about the 3.5 jack… Well mine is like a walkman phone… You can plug whatever headphones you want. As for being cheap plastic… It’s glass you rem. The touchpad is glass because it needs to refract light. not reflect but refract. I have had this phone 1 week. Sure it isn’t the iPhone with expensive apps, stupid legal issues with mp3s and an expensive contract with O2 (who give you nohing for being their customer!) but it is however a great phone. The wifi is great – with good speed and great quality (tested on youtube) and the HSDPA is also quick (tested on google maps) it’s memory is great – many mp3s and pics. The camera is good but was expecting more. Menu is good but could use an apple style store selling apps and widgets. NOW THE MOST iMPORtAnT PART: Phone calls: Excellent – clear, loud and no hanging up by accident. Video calls: Also great. good quality and the resolution of the screen is awesome. MMS: Easy to use. SMS: Touchpad makes texting easier for me – i am not a speed texter but with T9 I am fast becoming one. Hope this helps anyone – and remember just because someone on here cn’t do something (eg forward txts) doesn’t mean it can’t be done – just ask someone at LG or Carphone Warehouse (UK) – Nick, England
  • Had it for a while now, quite decent. Worth the price tag? Meh, perhaps. Touchscreen/Touchpad combinations works excellent, and is quite useful, very hard to do without the moment you use a touchscreen-only phone after using this one. Feels responsive and fast. Bad points: The camera is a bit too blurry, and feels rather cheap, and no real way of downloading new apps to it. Great phone apart from that. – VSeven, Netherlands

While those guys are quite happy with the GD900, some guys are not that satisfied:

  • its rubbish the keypad is rubbish i think the iphone is much better and this phone is cheap lookin with a big price tag so yeahh dnt ge it – ememe, England.
  • Well i guess it is ok but the key pad would be a bit anoying because it is transperant and what if it is sunny nad you cant see the key pad what are u supposed to do then?. and i have to admit it is nice looking but i dont think that lg thought the key pad through. I think that te lg secret kf750 is a much better phone the people can buy, because it is not OVER the top on price and is at a resonible price!! – Chook, Australia.
  • Cheap plastick build quality – Very poor for a high end phone. Menu system jumps all over the place and on some occasions seeems to have a mind of its own. Even on highest quality 8 mp camera v dissapointing, my N95 gave far better results. Call quality is good but phone gets quite hot after short periods. Was really looking forward to the release of this phone, but sadly dissapointed. LG tried too hard and have come out with what appears to be an unfinished product. Innexcusable that it is marketed as a multimedia phone but doesn’t have a 3.5 mm headphone jack?! Would have returned it, but wasn’t allowed to as had opened it and tried it out. – Graeme, UK
