Although Engadget touted the AVCHD video format used by GZ-HM400 as worthless, the specs below reveals useful features and powerful specs.

Everio GZ-HM400 Early Reviews reveals some problems which may make buyers move away from this HD Camcorder. These includes the following:
- It seems that the HM400 has a bit of problem in focusing with the AF mode, when using the zoom at maximum telephoto and bringing it to close.
- Low light performance doesn’t look great, or even pretty good, but it surpass the JVC GZ-X900
