Yesterday, Samsung unveiled a new series of tough and rugged memory cards which they call CF (compact flash) Plus and SD (SDHC) Plus.Like your tough digital camera, these cards are waterproof, shock proof and magnet proof making it more reliable than conventional SDHC and CF cards.
The Plus line of memory cards is secured by an assembled case which is made with with a non-conductive polymer coating and the surface of the memory is coated with Epoxy Molding Compound (EMC) making it survive sea water submersion. It can withstand strong impact up to 50G and 900Nmm torque of bending. And while other memory cards which are not meant to be tough can be damaged when exposed to x-ray and magnets, this tough memory card from Samsung can withstand upto 13x the magnetism of the ones found in most speaker system.
Aside from being tough, it’s also faster thanks to its SLC (Single Level Cell) technology, which enable it to records data in a binary format, which is far more faster than MLC (Multi Level Cell), which saves 2 bits (00, 01, 10 or 11) of data in a single cell.
The CF Plus is available in 4GB and 8GB variants while the SHDC Plus is available in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB. Both cards can be bought in brushed silver and natural beige colour. The 4GB and 8GB CF Plus cards are priced at 37 and 60 UK Pounds respectively while 4GB, 8GB and 16GB SD Plus cards are priced at 11, 18 and 37 UK pounds, currently these cards are only available in the UK, Germany and France while Asia, the United States and other European country will have to wait a bit longer.
