The Lacie Grand Hard Desktop Drive and Pettie Portable Hard Drive’s design kinda sucks perhaps thats why Lacie hired Philippe Stark to designed two new external hard drive which is i think more Appealing.
Lacie Starck Mobile Hard Drive
If you like the Western Digital My Passport Elite for it’s great design, wait till you see these Mobile Hard Drive by it’s competitor Lacie. The Lacie Starck Portable Hard Drive is designed by Philippe Starck with efficiency and practicality in mind without sacrificing style. Thanks to it’s mm resistant aluminum casing, intuitive auto-backup application and retractable embedded cable.
I think the design is radical and chick, but that embossed lacie logo IMO is a heart breaker. It could have been more simple and clean without it, but that’s just me. At first I though the Starck Mobile HD should have a dock like WD’s My Passport Elite, but the you only use the dock when you put it on a desk for a long time. At 138 x 92 x 20 mm and weights 355 g, Lacie’s Mobile HD is meant to be stored in our back pack or pocket not on your desk, but an optional dock could help.
Works with Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Mac OS X Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard the :Acie Starck Mobile Hard Drive is available in 320 and 500 GB Capacity. This chic and beautiful aluminum mobile hard drive comes with a USB Cable, USB power-sharing cable and a Quick intall guide.

Lacie Starck Desktop Hard Drive
I really like the Stark Mobile Hard Drive but this bigger badder version is a better option for those who don’t need it small and portable.

This looks like a work of art, the front features a chrome magma surface which is held in an 3mm resistand aluminum casing. The LED “+” Starck signature reflecting on any surface you place it and the customizable touch sensitive surface is really cool!. It responds to a short tap or long touch which you can customize to open any application of your choice (hmm how bout launching time machineĀ andĀ start creating a back up with a touch of this drive)
It sould have been better if you can set it vertically and another stark logo will light up to reflect to the table’s surface while turning off the other but you need a built in accelerometer to do that which is a bit too much for such purpose. Also adding firewire 800 interface would have been better.
The Lacie Starck Desktop Hard Drive is available now in 1 TB and 2 TB versions and comes with a 2 year limited warranty.
