I’ve been an iPoder (ipod user) since 2001 the 1st Generation, firewire only, black LCD screen, rotating wheel, 5 gig, white and bulky iPod. It was such a beautiful gadget when most students on college use CD players, bought it at 400usd around 20,000.00 php and it’s worth the money. I remember the time when a schoolmate asked me what is it, and i said “it’s an iPod”, “iPod?” he asked, “MP3 player from apple” then i smiled when he asked “What is MP3…”. The Cuppertino based Company indeed revolutionized how i listen to music… The 1st Generation of iPod does only play music, it have it’s extras like calendars, game and contacts, it even uses music match jukebox to sync songs and i was so satisfied with it way back then.
Every good thing comes to an end, after 4 years of usage it slowly breaks down starting with the left side ear phones, then the earphone jack, and finally the hard drive then it’s unusable, i should have replaced it way back then but now it’s too late, there’s no available HD for it, i could buy one on ebay but the cost will be same as buying a new ipod.
Several iPods were released but the last ipod that made me gave in to the iLust is the iPod Nano, (8GB Limited Edition Red). I like the red brushed aluminum feel, it’s quite a huge leap from the 1st Gen iPod to the 2nd Gen iPod Nano. I was very happy, i used it carelessly, didn’t even bothered to protect it, until it accidentally got wet when i travel home on bike raining. The “rewind/previous” button on the click-wheel failed and have no choice but to use “menu” instead.. I was reluctant to bring it back to apple, thought that they might found out that it got wet due to my negligence, but thanks to apple! They replaced it with a brand new Nano, ‘course they didn’t know what really happend..
The release of the new iPods this year (2007) made me want to buy a new music player though i already have a Nano. The temptation is strong, been googling for reviews, pics and videos of the new iPods. I resist to buy until i tried watching Transformers Movie on my friends iPod video, the movie is in wide screen and watching it on a small screen is a pain in the eye. Then i realized… i have the money, i want to watch movies on-the-go, i got a mac.. it’s logical to buy a new iPod and after several days of watching youtube videos of the new iPod touch i went to YNZAL (local apple distributor) and amidst the storm (was raining hard) i drive my bike and buy the Touch.
The Touch is the best iPod if you define ipod as a personal media player. IMHO the Touch is the real iPod, my definition of an iPod is a personal gadget where i can immerse on media (music, movies, pictures, the web), more than a PDA. If you search for “pod” on OSX’ dictionary widget it defines as “a detachable or self-contained unit on an aircraft, vehicle, spacecraft or vessel having a particular function” that defines iPod as a dock-able personal device with a particular function, makes me think that the iPhone should be called iPod Phone and is the ultimate iPod.
As of the moment i’m really loving my iPod Touch, if you haven’t tried it yet.. you miss half of your life… ![]()
