Ever since I switched to Mac I rarely used any Office Apps. iWork 09 did it’s job of keeping me from using Office 2007. Although iWork is sufficient enough, I would suggest that you install Microsoft Office. Just to make sure you can open even that rarest kind of Office Document.
Here’s a step by step guide to on how to download and install the latest version of MS Office (for the PC).
- First make sure that your computer is powerful enough to run it. It must have a 500 MHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor or higher
, at least 256 MB of system memory, 3 GB of available disk space
and at least 1024×768 resolution monitor. You also need a DVD-R/W Drive and make sure your operatins system is Windows XP Service Pack 3 (32bit) or later (Mac users should wait several years for the Mac version). - Now that you’re sure that your PC can run Office 2010 you’re still not ready. You need to have a windows live or MSN account. You can sign up here if you don’t have one yet.
- Now that you have a Windows live account you need to visit this page and Click on the “Get it now” button placed on the upper right of that page. Then login with your windows live account.
- Once logged in you’ll be given an Office 2010 product key which you will use to activate it later.I would suggest that you copy it to a txt document, or print the whole page. Product activation procedure is just below the product key.
- Next you need to select the language and which version of Office 2010 you want to download, either 32 bit or 64 bit, I would suggest you getting which 32 bit if you’re running on windows xp otherwise just make sure to download 32 bit if your on 32bit version of vista or windows 7 or 64 bit it you have 64 bit windows 7 or vista installed.
- It will then initiate a Java applet to download the executable file, make sure you allow firefox to open popups from microsoft or it will just block the download process. The download is 684MB and took me about two hours to download.
- Once downloaded you just need to double click the ProfessionalPlus.exe file, agree to the terms and, click upgrade. The install should be quick and easy.
This is what i like about beta software, they could be buggy but hey it’s free.
