Our long wait is finally over as the long and heavily rumored 3G iPhone was announced today during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference Keynote. The introduction of the new iPhone can no longer be a surprise but their prices surely is. They are a lot cheaper than the older iPhones when they were launched last year. Faster but Cheaper iPhones? Surely is great news for iPhone lovers out there. The 3G iPhone will sell for $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16GB model. That’s a $200 discount from the previous $399 and $499 prices for the 8GB and 16GB iPhones, respectively. And it’s a far cry from the price tag for the iPhone when it was introduced nearly a year ago. Last June, the iPhone cost as much as $599 for an 8GB model.

“Just one year after launching the iPhone, we’re launching the new iPhone 3G that is twice as fast at half the price, iPhone 3G supports Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync right out of the box, runs the incredible third party apps created with the iPhone SDK, and will be available in more than 70 countries around the world this year.” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.

Pricing and Availability:

The iPhone 3G will be available for $199 for 8 GB and $299 for 16 GB. The 16 GB model also comes in white. The iPhone 3G ships July 11. In addition to the U.S., the new phone will be available initially in 21 other countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the U.K. Apple expects the phone to be available in more than 70 countries later this year.
