If you are planning to pre-order the first Android-based phone, T-Mobile G1, then you may have run out of luck because [re-orders are now closed and the T-Mobilr G1's are already sold out.

With the overwhelming response to the announcement of the T-Mobile has run out of available devices for the G1 pre-order. Hundreds of people immediately jumped on T-Mobile’s site to pre-order their device. So many in fact that the site was down for several hours. [via AndroidCommunity]

UPDATE: Pre-orders are back on! T-Mobile experience a glitch and pre-orders are still open. Here is T-Mobile’s official statement.

“The T-Mobile G1 microsite experienced a technical glitch this morning, and is now back up and running.  Since Tuesday’s announcement, we’ve experienced heavy demand for the device.  A small quantity of T-Mobile G1s are still available at this time for T-Mobile customers. Please visit http://www.T-MobileG1.com for details.”

Technical glitch huh? I’m not sure why but I think this is just a marketing plot to get attention. I’m sure that the T-Mobile G1 is a great product and we can’t blame them if they want to get attention by staging some “panic” by closing the pre-orders, and blaming it on a “glitch”
