Apple officially announced their invite-only media event on Oct. 14– to be held at the Apple headquarters Town Hall building at 10 a.m. — with the tagline “The spotlight turns to notebooks” and some say that this is a sign that points towards the launch of sub-$1000 MacBooks.
Analyst Gene Munster said he was confident that Apple would be releasing a sub-$1,000 notebook. He pointed out that Apple hinted at a “product transition” that would allow them to deliver “state-of-the-art new products that our competitors aren’t going to be able to match.” Munster said this translates to Apple releasing a product that’s significantly lower priced than the existing ones in order to hit its gross margin guidance.
“We feel good they’re going to have a sub-$1,000 notebook,” Munster said. “It’s just been two and a half years since these [Mac notebooks] have been redesigned, so it’s been long overdue.” [via Wired]
Gene Munsters’s theory was backed upped by an article from Inquisitr that says they have a retail store insider that says Apple retailers in the United States have been given price lists for a new Apple laptop line with a big surprice, the new pricelist includes an $800 laptop. the said pricelist includes Apple’s upcoming laptops prices and that there are 12 price points ranging from $800 to $3100. Current lines only have 8 price points, 3 Macbooks starting at $1099, 3 Macbook Pros and 2 Macbook Airs.
According to The Inquisitr’s source, Although technical specs for the new laptops were not included on the price sheet, retail outlets usually get the price lists 10 days before products hit the market.
