Rumors are already floating around about the next generation Apple iPhone, Some rumors say that Apple may be close to releasing the third version of its highly successful iPhone and that a number of handsets are already being used.

MacRumors reported that the latest firmware update for the phone, version 2.1, contains references to a new hardware version, also called 2.1

215805-iphone2

Apple uses these models numbers to distinguish between different hardware models. The original iPhone carries the model number of “iPhone 1,1″ while the 3G iPhone is labeled “iPhone 1,2″. These numbers do not change for simple storage increases and instead represent functionally different devices

And now, PinchMedia added a few more details to these rumors. Below is what they have:

  • the first time an application using Pinch Analytics was run by a ‘iPhone 2,1′ device occurred back in early October 2008;
  • applications using Pinch Analytics were run by ‘iPhone 2,1′ devices very sporadically until mid-December 2008, when the pace picked up slightly;
  • to date, a few dozen distinct ‘iPhone 2,1′ devices have run almost two dozen different applications using Pinch Analytics;
  • when ‘iPhone 2,1′ devices run applications using Pinch Analytics’ optional geolocation tracking, they’re almost exclusively located in the south San Francisco Bay Area;
  • while most of the sessions have been made from wifi connections, there’s been a few connections over AT&T’s network, so presumably this device handles both;
  • the applications that have been run by Pinch Analytics don’t share much in common, except for their size — they’re among the larger applications to use our stuff, with hundreds of thousands to millions of unique users.

PinchMedia provides iPhone developers with ad serving and analytic tracking software to embed within iPhone applications. This is how the the iPhone 2,1 devices have been detected.

These rumors of next generation iPhone also indicates that the next generation iPhone may have support for Multi-Core CPUs and possibly Multi-Core GPUs. Apple has been building a team of chip engineers over the past year to participate in their own ARM processor designs that will presumably be used in future iPhones.

There is also a rumor about the Apple and Adobe working together to put Flash on the iPhone. Is it just coincidence? I think not.

Looks like all these rumors flaoting around indicates a new iPhone is on its way. It is still not possible to tell when it’s going to be launch or even announced to the public, we just have to keep our eyes peeled at all times and keep ourselves updated.
