Yes, that’s right! I used to hate PLDT for their poor service, but now they seem to s*ck no more.
Yesterday, a customer support representative called, asked if she can talk to the subscriber on record – my sister which is currently in KSA, because her PLDT DSL subscription is eligible to 1.5mbps upgrade. Luckily, I already processed the transfer of ownership, allowing me to modify the subscription. According to the agent, our current DSL speed at plan 999 is at 1mbps, the upgrade will add 500kbps to the current subscription for free. All I have to do is provide a valid ID (i.e. driver’s license, or passport) and my mother maiden name for verification. I was able to give her my driver’s license number, expiration date and all the other info, then she told me that my DSL speed will be upgraded in five working days. Also, other than those personal information, she told me that upgrading the plan will add 1 year lock in period to my DSL subscription which is OK since I don’t have any plan to unsubscribe to PLDT DSL anytime soon.
I’m not much or a downloader so 1 mbps is enough for me, adding 500 kbps for free sounds really great! Hopefully PLDT can live up to its promise. Upon checking my current speed via Speedtest.net, it reveals that my internet speed hits 1mbps mark downstream, it even goes beyond that. However, the upstream (upload speed) retains at slugish 500kbps. Is this PLDT’s way to keep their devoted subscriber? If so, they’re doing good!
Did you received a free plan upgrade from PLDT? If not, you can call 171 and ask them nicely if you’re eligible for the speed bump.

Not impressed. Upgrading maybe for 2 mbps for Plan 999 would suffice? 2 mbps is minimum. remember we are still below average speed vs the global average download speed
Because it used to be lower than that..
In a fast changing and competitive world, internet service providers like PLDT would always find ways and means in updating their services so as not to be left behind in the market. Good thing there are open to changes. Anyway, there is no harm in trying. If there is customer satisfaction, the company will surely grow!
why are you so happy when your download speed is just the same (1mbps) instead of 1.5 mbps?
