Take a look at the latest coneector, the USB 3.0, from MaximumPC. I am sure that most of PC users, if not all, already knows what a USB or a Universal Serial Bus is. The USB 2.0 also known as USB Hi-Speed boosted the original 12Mbps data rate of the first USB to 480Mmb/s over eight years ago, and now the USB 3.0, dubbed as USB Superspeed, is set to multiply that bandwidth by ten. USB 3.0 can transfer a 27GB file in just 70 seconds. And with more “lanes” of data within the connector, the new USB 3.0 will be able to simultaneously send and receive information, something that the old USB can’t do.
Another of the benefit of the new USB 3.0 is that it is backward compatible with the USB 2.0. Like the 2.0 to the USB 1.1 connectors and cables will be physically and functionally compatible with hardware from the older specs. OF course you cannot maximize the bandwidth unless you’re using a USB 3.0 cable with Superspeed devices and ports.
Probably the best benefit of USB 3.0 is the new power management options. First, USB peripherals in standby will no longer be drained of their power while periodically checking in with your PC, instead, the devices will send the host a signal to begin data transfer. That means less battery drain for laptop users.
And another great benefit of the new USB 3.0 is that there’s a whole lot more running through the wire. The spec has been bumped from carrying 100 miliamps to 900 milliamps, meaning that we can expect faster charge times on USB devices. Just imagine charging those gadgets in a few minutes instead of hours.
