The transition from the 3rd generation fat iPod Nano to the latest iPod Nano must have been easy for Apple, personally, I don’t like the fat version of the iPod Nano, that’s why I kept my 2nd gen iPod Nano instead of upgrading to the 3rd gen one. The latest version of the iPod Nano has the same size screen as the 3rg gen iPod Nano, the same 8GB and 16GB storage and the same video support as before, but adds a much more comfortable oval shape, a curved screen, an accelerometer and most importantly, a much improved user interface. Here are some of the features of the 4th gen iPod Nano:

- Considered the thinnest iPod ever, and smallest by volume
- First iPod nano that uses USB charging only
- Enhanced UI (user interface)
- Accelerometer to detect tilt
- Shake iPod to shuffle (won’t work unless screen is active and hold is off)
- Genius playlist built in
- Aluminum with curved glass
- Battery: 24 hours for music. 4 hours for video.
- $149 for 8GB. $199 for 16GB.
- 9 Colors: silver, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink, black

First thing you’ll notice is that the new iPod is easier to handle. The brushed metal looks and feels great, and is much less scratch-prone than the shiny silver backing in the fat 3G iPod Nano. It’s also thinner, because it tapers off to the sides (just like the iPhone), but it’s as thick at its thickest point as the entire body of the previous generation. The new iPod Nano is also less conspicuous in your pocket than the 3G fat version.

Next is the user interface of the iPod Nano which also has been improved by Apple. The new menu and display fills up the entire top half of device, which gives you more list items at once. Scrolling through menus and Cover Flow is as fast as anyone has seen in any iPod.

The Genius Playlist also works very well. Genius Playlist recommends music already on your device based a starting point of any song in your library. Another feature you’ll love is the shake to shuffle feature, just shak your iPod Nano and it will shuffle the songs in your playlist. Shake to Shuffle won’t work unless screen is active and hold is off

The 8GB will be available today for $149, while the 16GB, which goes for $199, should be available by next week.
