The guys at DP review conducted a group review of the newest water proof digital camera, I call it the Water Proof Camera Royal Rumble. They included the Canon PowerShot D10, Fuji FinePix Z33WP, Olympus Stylus Tough 8000,Stylus Tough 6000, Pentax Optio W60, Optio W80, and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 (often mistaken as Panasonic Lumix TSI). They have thoroughly compared every aspects to help us decide on which underwater digital camera to get this summer season.

Round 1 (Movie Recording)

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 knocked down the others in round due to it’s 720p,30 fps video recording, while the Pentax W60 can also capture 1020×720 resolution videos the screen rate is only 15fps which is totally unacceptable. The Canon, Olys, and the Fujis only records in standard definition making them losers on this round.

Round 2 (ISO performace)

Good performace at Low ISO means good image quality and performance at high ISO means better image in low light. The Olympus Though 6000 performs as well as W60 and better than the higher-end Tough 8000.
The TS1 performs better than the D10 while the other contender offers varying combinations of noise, artifacts, and blurred detail in high ISO setting. Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 wins this round.

Round 3 (Image Quality)

When shooting in good lighting condition Panasonic, Canon and Pentax W60 are the major performer. While D10 beats TS1 and W60 with it’s in-camera sharpening arsenal.

Round 4 (Flash Performance)

Canon D10 established to even out ambient light and flash illumination just right to create the most pleasant photo, while the TS1 is the most disappointing in the match.

0 – Olympus Stylus Tough 6000

Round 5 (Underwater Performance)

The Canon D10 and W60 wins this round. But the D10 is the best performer and the easiest to use because of it’s rugged design.

0 – Olympus Stylus Tough 6000
2 – Pentax Optio W60
0 – Pentax Optio W80

And the Winner is i mean are, The Canon Powershot D10 and Panasonic Lumix TS1.

Whew, What a match! It still boils down to the battle between D10 and TS1.

So this means if you want better Image quality and standard definition movie is okay with you you settle for the D10 while if you want the better video and overall aceptable image quality the TS1 is for you.

I just hope that Canon update’s the Powershot D10 soon and put HD video recording but until then I’m still for the TS1.
