Yesterday we get to see several reviews of the Samsung ST550 Digital Camera with a front LCD screen. Do you know that it have a cheaper brother? The ST500.
At first look you’ll notice that they both look identical except for the lens ring, the ones on the ST550 is coloured silver while the ST500 is black. Aside from that and the $50 US price difference there are several things which is listed below.
Difference between the ST500 and ST550
- ST550 offers HDMI connectivity while the ST500 doesnt have HDMI
- Colours: the ST500 will be available in silver, red and blue while the ST550 will come in black, gold, orange and purple.
- LCD screen: The ST500 have a smaller 3 inch LCD screen while the ST550 is bigger at 3.5 inches
- Screen Colour: ST500 offers 230K while ST550 offers more colour at 1152k
- Weight: weighting 165.7g the ST550 is heavier than the ST500 which wights only 149g (without memory card and battery)
- Size: at 99.8 x 59.8 x 19.1mm the ST500 is thinner than the ST550 at 99.8 x 59.8 x 18.6mm

Other than those six differences both cameras are similar, the obvious reason to buy the cheaper ST500 are
- You don’t need HDMI
- You don’t mind a smaller LCD screen
- You want to experience the fun of having a front lcd without spending more
After reading several reviews I personally prefer the ST500, the weakness of the ST550 is its weak battery life which is a result of a bigger LCD. Theoretically the ST500′s battery will last longer since it have a smaller LCD screen. BUT if you watch photos directly from the camera to your high definition LCD TV, the HDMI connectivity with the ST550 is a plus. It really depends on your need, otherwise if you don’t mind shelling off several bucks, go for the ST550. The huge LCD screen is pretty.
