We showed you the basic difference between the LX5 and the LX3, but the newer rendition got something more. According to photoradar’s review, the new LX5 has a new more sensitive 10.1 megapixel CCD sensor, Venus Engine FHD allows a more advanced signal processing, and a brighter f 2.0 aperture shoots excellent photos in low light. Just take at these low light sample photos taken with the LX5.

The sample photos reveal good looking bokeh delivered by the f2.0 lens. Full size photos here.

PhotographyBlog played with the ISO setting and the LX5 at 100% crop delivered well at ISO 800, ISO 1600 is a bit noisy for me, but it is acceptable,  fragmentation and discoloration occurs at ISO 3200, remember this is not an SLR. Here’s ISO 6400 and ISO 12800 for your viewing pleasure (more samples here and here).

So there you go, it’s not called an upgrade to the LX3 for no reason.
