Like the Tough 6000 the Tough 3000 is a 12 megapixel waterproof (up to 10 feet), freeze proof (-10 Celsius) and shock proof  (able to withstand 5ft fall) compact camera. Like the earlier models it also sports a 2.7″ LCD display, 3.6x Wide-Angle Optical Zoom, Panorama Shots, Dual Image Stabilization, Advanced Image Detections and Beauty Mode.

Although the Tough 8000 is still the toughest, the newest Tough Guy features a more advance movie function. This includes the ability to shoot wide screen HD movies in 720p resolution, there’s also dedicated button so you can record movies in one touch, no more fiddling the menu. Aside from 720p movie recording it’s also the first camera from the tough series to have a built in 1GB internal memory in case you’re in a hurry and you don’t have time to shop for a memory card. I also need to mention that the Tough 3000 doesn’t replaces the X-560 WP, it may not be freeze proof nor shock proof but it is still the cheapest waterproof camera Olympus have.

Before the introduction of the Tough 3000, the Panasonic TS1 is the only Tough Camera that can record 720p HD video. Now that Olympus entered the 720p tough camera arena I guess its time for Panasonic to unveil the successor to the TS1, the TS2 and make sure to put a dedicated movie record button. Although its still early to conclude that Olympus reclaimed the throne of the Best Tough Camera, Olympus has nailed it. I just hope the Tough 3000 does not only perform great on paper, hope to see better image quality and please no movie Jello BS.

The Tough 3000 is priced at $230 US, 160 Euros or 140 UK Pounds and is available in Blue, Green, Red and Pink.
