Together with the release of Coolpix P7100, S8200, S6200, S1200pj, and S100, Nikon rolls out its first ever all weather, watherproof, point & shoot digital camera – the Nikon Coolpix AW100.

As tough as it can be the Coolpix AW100 can go to extreme chills up to negative 10 degrees Celsius, can take a 5 feet drop, and can be submerged up to 33 feet under water. It have a built-in compass, and GPS radio that not only record the location of your photos it allows you to use the AW100 as a handy navigation device. Aside from 16 Megapixel sensor, full HD video, image stabilization, motion detection technology, and 5x optical zoom. Another promising feature of this new point and shoot is its “Action Control” feature that lets you access various settings by just shaking the device.

The new Coolpix AW100 allows Nikon to penetrate the rugged-weatherproof camera market making it compete directly with Sony TX5, Panasonic TS2, and tons of other shock-proof, waterproof, freezeproof digital camera. Well, we have to wait for early adapters to get their hands on this beauty for real life reviews. For now, all I can say is that Nikon did a good job of creating a full featured tough camera that will surely shake the market.

The AW100 is available in orange, blue, and black, and retails for US$380.
