October 17, 2009 Leica Camera AG and Hermès Paris (Not the Greek God but a clothing/fashion brand) bring out the VERY limited edition ‘Hermès’ M7 35mm rangefinder system camera. This is the second time that Hermes and Leica worked together to produce a series of camera the first Hermes edition was unveiled in 2003.
Leica will only produce 200 M7 Hermes and will come in silver chrome with two leather finishes orange and étoupe (light brownish khaki colour) which are supplied by Hermès. Leica will produce 100 units of each colour making this limited edition item so rare which might make the price soaring high.
Here’s a list of the special characteristics of this limited edition rangefinder camera.
- Orange and étoupe leather finish
- Silver anodised LEICA SUMMILUX-M 35 mm f/1.4 ASPH.wide-angle lens
- Classic round lens hood in silver anodized metal
- LEICAVIT M rapid winder in silver chrome
- All control elements of the LEICA M7 Edition ‘Hermès’ have been manufactured exclusively in metal
- A real leather carrying strap, handcrafted by Atelier Hermès to match the colour of each camera
- Each set is delivered in a linen-covered, silk-lined box
- the top plate is engraved with the Leica name in classic script: the red Leica logo has been omitted to preserve the colour harmony of the leather covering
- All control elements of the LEICA M7 Edition ‘Hermès’ have been manufactured exclusively in metal, and the back of the camera is finished in silver chrome
- the red colour of the engraved AUTO and settings on the shutter speed dial has been replaced by the specific shade of the camera’s leather
Available in UK this december at a suggested price of 8,550 UK pounds, that’s a whopping 670,00 Philippine Pesos, 9.7 k Euros or 14,400 US Dollars. Now let’s talk about world hunger. This camera is not for the budget challenged individual, but could be quite an investment. Imagine how much this limited edition hermes M7 would be in five to 10 years.
As for me I would stay focused on dreaming about the rather cute Leica X1 which is less expensive.
