Apple can’t prevent hackers from hacking into their iPhones. But seems like apple has prepared iTunes 8.0 to avoid pwning, disabling this ability in mint iPod touch and iPhone devices. You’ll see a warning that your iPod has been detected but couldn’t be identified properly when you plugged your Pwned iPhones in your iTunes 8.0. Hmmm… looks like Apple 1 Pwnage 0… or is it?
Pwned iPhone users should panic about this news because the iPhone Dev Team already have a counter attack. And as they asserted multiple of times already, “Apple can’t fix the bug we’ve exploited in PwnageTool unless they fix their hardware.” So from the looks of it, the bug isnt from the software, its from the hardware. The iPhone Dev Team says that the hardware fact is still true. But one way Apple can try to combat Pwnage for existing hardware is to program iTunes to detect and prevent the Pwnage exploit. And from the looks of it, it is what they did in iTunes 8.0
The nice thing about iTunes decisions is that we can provide you with patches to counter them. We have one such patch already for Mac iTunes 8 for iPod touch. We’ll be working out the full suite of patches for all the combinations over the next week. [via iPhone Dev]
Looks like we have the scores backward. Nice try Apple.
